Client Night - Toxins to Avoid and Nutrition Basics
Join us Tuesday the 31st January from 7.30pm with Guest Speaker Laurelea Moss as she uncovers the truths about toxins to avoid and enlightens us with nutrition basics to get you in the right direction to achieving all your goals in 2012.
Laurelea grew up surrounded by a health conscious, medical family background. This lead her to gain qualifications in human movement, acupuncture, Chinese herbs, remedial massage and more recently; toxicology and the issues with common chemicals and interventions to achieve positive health outcomes.
On the night you will begin to understand how you can take responsibility for your own levels of exposure to toxic chemicals (and why it’s important for health and fitness). Laurelea will also enlighten us on colloidal minerals, essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and multivitamins. For a subject that is hard to know what's best you'll discover how to gain a happy digestive system, and how to achieve nutritional balance.
Laurelea promises to inform us by speaking frankly from her own personal experiences, in depth research and has a true passion in helping those she shares her information with to positively impact your health and wellness.
Temptation and how to train yourself to break the addiction.
Temptation is a concept that we as human beings, are too commonly familiar with. It is defined as “the desire to have or do something that you know you should avoid”. Most, if not all of us are frequently faced with the same difficult battle of having to resist temptation in a range of situations, and unfortunately we sometimes lose the battle. This may often be the case when temptation is subtly lurking around foods - and by this I mean the types of food that are not that good for you.

Unfortunately humans have become a species that eat for pleasure rather than nutrition, which has changed the very purpose for consuming food in the first place. Unhealthy food and drink is more desirable as they are valued as “comfort” foods. Sometimes these unhealthy foods are temptations that we know we should avoid but may not have the willpower to do so. The times in which it is most hard to resist temptation are in social settings such as parties, work functions/meetings, and even family gatherings.
It is much easier to maintain that willpower and follow a well balanced diet when you are following a consistent routine on a daily basis. However when we are socialising at parties or work functions, we often break this routine. For example, you might have a meal that is covered in fat that you will wash down with three glasses of wine, which disrupts your routine. Alternatively you could choose a meal that you know is healthy for you but also tastes good.
When consuming alcohol, try to have a glass of water in between drinks as this will fill you up quicker and may ultimately reduce the amount of alcohol you consume. If you are really dying for that sweet or salty taste there is nothing wrong with eating bad food here and there. A good trick to eating these foods is to consume them slowly. Chewing the food for a longer period of time will not only aid in digestion but you will feel fuller quicker. This will help decrease the quantity of food you consume.
Socialising involves the act of consuming food and drink which may not necessarily be good for you. When in such social occasions, the trick is to make smart choices that aren’t too far from your regular routine and allow you to defeat temptation. So just remember to try stray too far from your regular routine. And if there is snack food at a party, only treat it as a snack and not a meal.
You don’t need to go “cold turkey” it’s about making regular lifestyle changes that become a part of you. Trying to neglect things you like is not the answer long term. Because when comfort food is required we often go all out and overeat. You are much better off having smaller portions every now and then rather than neglecting and then binging.
Client of the Month!
Patrick Vines is a dedicated client that never misses a sessions AND never complains no matter what crazy exercise we come up with for him to do! You can truly see that he loves his training, enjoys being pushed and always walks out of the studio with a smile afterwards - no matter how much he’s sweated!
It’s this attitude which has helped him lose just under 10kg (although has had a few beer-filled weekends so some of that has been put back on – but we’re working on that now J).
His posture has improved out of sight, and so has his running technique. This had huge effects on his personal cardio sessions as well as at work (standing all day). His shoulders have retracted quite nicely over the last 6 months, still working on keeping his head upright throughout exercises.
The best part would have to be that Patrick no longer suffers from the back pain he once did during a normal shift at work. Some of the next goals include equalising his weight distribution instead of standing on one leg at work.
There is a great lesson here for all clients. No-one really likes to exercise (that much) but it’s the joy you take out of the small things (pushing your body beyond where it wants to go, thinking you can’t do what your trainer says you can and doing it anyway- and achieving...) These are thing you learn to love... If all else fails at least use the: “fake it ‘til you make it.” until it eventually happens!
DON'T FORGET: Recommend a friend for 5 complimentary sessions and if they decide to become a client you receive TWO GOLD CLASS tickets..!
Even if your friend doesn't join they don't join you still receive a Free PT session - just for referring..! They get 3 COMPLIMENTARY SESIONS (because of YOU - and You get a freebie and possibly Gold Class!! Who do you know that could benefit from a PT butt wooping?!?!
